NCAA Facility Compliance Guide: Products That Help You Meet the Standard
Hosting NCAA Division I, II, or III competition means your facilities are held to specific safety, surface, and equipment standards across every sport you offer. Compliance scope varies based on your division level, venue type, and the sports in your program, making a thorough facility assessment essential before each competition season begins.
This guide outlines key NCAA requirements by sport and explains how our products support compliance across your facility. Note that this document highlights major standards only. Your Athletic Director or Facility Manager should conduct a full compliance audit to identify every requirement applicable to your specific programs and venue configuration.
Many of our products are custom-manufactured to your exact facility dimensions and specifications, ensuring proper fit, regulatory compliance, and long-term durability. We work directly with facility managers to scope projects, recommend appropriate solutions, and provide compliance documentation.
Track and Field
NCAA regulations require outdoor tracks to maintain specific grade tolerances, including a maximum 1:100 lateral slope and a maximum 1:1000 downward slope, and to be professionally surveyed for certification. Long jump pits must measure 2.75m x 9m with approximately 30cm of sand depth and remain level and free of contamination. Throwing circles for shot, hammer, and weight events must measure 2.135m in diameter, discus circles at 2.5m, and javelin runways at 4m x 30-36.5m. All throwing circles must maintain level alignment with landing areas within a zero-variation tolerance for record eligibility. Weather-driven surface deterioration leads to settling and ruts that can put your facility out of compliance.
Our track surface covers protect against UV degradation, water infiltration, and debris accumulation between competition dates. Our custom-fitted long jump pit covers are made from durable 18oz solid vinyl with a weighted no-stake design, sold per square foot for a precise custom fit that maintains pit dimensions and protects sand from debris and UV exposure. Field covers protect throwing circles and landing sectors between uses, while rain spot covers provide targeted surface protection for specific event areas. Our full range of track and field mats rounds out coverage for all competition areas, with customizable sizes, weights, and colors available to match your facility requirements.
Soccer, Football, and Lacrosse
Field dimensions vary by sport: football requires a 120-yard x 53-1/3-yard field, soccer ranges from 115-120 yards x 70-75 yards, and lacrosse is played on a 110-yard x 60-yard surface. All fields must maintain clear markings, proper drainage, and be free of hazards that could cause player collisions. Safety buffer zones are required outside boundary lines, with football requiring 6 feet and soccer requiring 20 feet of clearance. Football goalposts must be padded with high-impact foam and vinyl covers. Soccer goals require white padding no more than 1 inch thick and at least 72 inches high. All exposed rivets, pins, and sharp edges must be covered, and stadium seating must be maintained in safe condition.
Full-field covers protect both natural turf and synthetic surfaces from UV damage and water infiltration between uses. Sideline covers for football are available in lengths spanning the full 120-yard field in both ArmorMesh and premium vinyl blanket styles. Fence top safety covers protect players and spectators from sharp chain link edges along soccer and lacrosse field boundaries, while fence rail padding cushions hard metal rails at common collision points. Windscreens reduce wind interference along field boundaries for soccer and lacrosse. Goalpost padding is available for football facilities. Contact our team for sport-specific goalpost padding options and sizing. Stadium seat covers protect seating areas from weather damage and UV degradation throughout the season.
Tennis
NCAA tennis facilities must provide varsity-quality courts with proper dimensions, clearly defined safety zones, and compliant boundary fencing. Spectator areas must remain unobstructed, and courts must protect players from both wind interference and collisions with boundary structures.
Court covers protect playing surfaces from UV damage and weather deterioration between matches and during off-season periods. Windscreens reduce wind interference along court boundaries while reinforcing boundary definition. Fence rail padding and fence top safety covers protect players from impact with hard boundary structures and help maintain a competition-ready facility appearance.
Golf
Golf courses hosting NCAA championships must meet championship-caliber playing conditions throughout the season. Safe, consistent surfaces across greens, tees, and fairways are required, and course integrity must be maintained even through periods of heavy weather or extended off-season closures.
Spot covers provide targeted protection for greens, tees, and high-use surface areas from weather damage and UV degradation. Turf blankets and field protection covers maintain course conditions during off-season and maintenance periods, keeping surfaces consistent between competition dates and reducing turf replacement costs over time.
Volleyball and Basketball
Volleyball and basketball courts must meet NCAA regulation dimensions with clearly maintained markings and safe boundary zones. Both sports present collision risks with hard structural elements including walls, posts, and support structures. These hazards must be properly managed to protect player safety without compromising equipment functionality.
Gym floor covers protect court surfaces during equipment setup, special events, and multi-use scheduling. They are available in multiple weights and widths to suit different facility configurations. Indoor wall padding protects players from impact with hard structural elements during both play and practice, with Class A fire-retardant options and customizable sizes, colors, and printed graphics available.
Gymnastics
All gymnastics equipment must feature protective padding on hard surfaces and structural elements. Equipment must be inspected regularly to confirm padding integrity and athlete safety during both training and competition. Deteriorated or improperly installed padding is a direct compliance and liability concern.
Heavy-duty gymnastics and landing mats protect athletes during high-impact landings, available in multiple thicknesses from 4 inches to 12 inches to suit different apparatus and skill levels. Folding gymnastics mats provide flexible landing area edge protection and are easy to transport and store between sessions. Properly installed and maintained padding supports NCAA compliance standards while extending equipment lifespan and reducing facility liability.
Build a Compliant Facility
This guide outlines key NCAA requirements across major sports, but it is not a substitute for a full compliance audit. Your Athletic Director or Facility Manager should review all applicable rule sets for your division level, sport offerings, and venue configuration before competition season begins.
Our product line is designed to help you meet these standards efficiently. Products are custom-manufactured to your exact facility dimensions and specifications, ensuring proper fit, regulatory compliance, and long-term durability. We work with facility managers to scope projects, recommend appropriate solutions, and provide compliance documentation.
